With its sinister name and ugly look, toxic black mold has the power to strike fear into the heart of any homeowner. Asbestos Experts™ has spent years working across the state of New Mexico, removing this pervasive and unhealthy variety of mold from the homes of our clients and restoring their peace of mind. We believe that education and prevention are the best tools that homeowners and business owners can acquire in order to prevent any sort of disaster- whether it is fire damage, water damage, or, difficult to remove mold damage. So, what is this all-too-common black mold, and what should you know about it? We’ll answer some of the basics here.

Black mold is most likely to appear in homes with previous water damage, or persistent water problems, like leaking pipes or faulty swamp coolers. Basements, crawl spaces, and bathrooms are frequent culprits when it comes to areas that can develop issues with moisture, and later, problems with black mold. When you examine your home, and these areas, in particular, look for dark black areas. Black mold can appear as slimy patches of small circles on wet exteriors, or as chalky patterns where excess moisture once existed. Black mold tends to grow in circular patterns and can expand outward at a fairly rapid pace- making it difficult to control once it has become a real problem.

Black mold can be dangerous if left untreated, causing an array of allergic reactions and health problems. Depending on the length of exposure and the number of spores inhaled, symptoms can range anywhere from moderate to severe and include fever, skin irritation, coughing, and sneezing. Of course, if you are experiencing any of these symptoms as the result of what you believe to be mold exposure, seek the help of your physician as soon as possible.

The best long-term solution for the health of your home and to guard your health against the dangers of black mold exposure is to invest in mold remediation as quickly as possible. The technicians on staff at Asbestos Experts™ are certified by ACME Environmental to treat mold in a comprehensive manner with all the latest tools. We’re invested in the health of New Mexican families, that’s why we respond to most calls within the hour and go out of our way to make sure you’re treated with care and respect.
